Police Brutality In America

WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER POST VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE

YOUTUBE is not a about free speech, they are actually shadow banning, black listing videos, demonetizing creators, and they are just right out banning people off the platform.

YOUTUBE is no longer creative friendly to video creators.

And they are also constantly censoring people there.

However, their are many alternatives to "YOUTUBE," that are decentralized platforms.

And these platforms that are decentralized will not delete your videos, in fact they are about free speech.

And this is a good thing for all activists, independent journalist, and 1st Amendment Auditors.

Because they are protected from government officials, and bootlickers trying to take down your channel.

And since you are now filming, you are officially a content creator and you should be getting paid for your hard work.

Many content creators have been complaining that YOUTUBE does not pay them as much as they should be getting, even if you have thousands of subscribers you will not get nearly as much for all your hard work on filming, editing, and making sure everything looks good before uploading it.

However, the open source decentralized platforms, will respect your work on what you are doing, which is being a content creator.

These open source decentralized platforms, will reward you for your hard work by paying you much, much more.

But I would suggest, since we the people, have the power and authority to be press, and it is a protected activity from the 1st Amendment then as independent journalist we should be putting our created content on other open source decentralized platforms as well.

Not just to make money, but because we are press and we have a right, and as a 1st Amendment protected activity to film and photograph our public servants and public officials in their capacity in their line of duty, to show everyone we the people, how they treat us and if they are honoring their oath which they took to protect our rights.

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to stop video streaming websites from using some form of tracking.

All of them collect aggregated data to improve their services' or use cookies to collect data marketing purposes.

Some also share that data with partners and almost all of them will share your information in

"special circumstances" like to fight fraud or when requested by law enforcement agencies.

YOUTUBE, is owned by google, so google does this as well. so why should you bother looking for YOUTUBE alternatives?

You are giving google even more data, which adds to an even more accurate

"user profile."

You're getting stuck in the "filter bubble."

Google thinks that it knows what you want and serves you the search results that match your profile and your interests.

Leaving any other information outside your "filter bubble."

Broaden your horizons.

Not all the high quality videos that are available on the internet are on "YOUTUBE."

Start a chain reaction, start a trend.

Bring your subscribers, followers, and all your viewers to a free speech, open source, decentralized platform.

Since "YOUTUBE" is owned by google, "YOUTUBE" is now centralized.

Centralized, and centralization leads to censorship.

If you would like to promote, advertise, and just let people know about your YOUTUBE alternative channel, start a trend and bring your friends, family, followers, and subscribers to a uncensored, free speech social media platform.

That won't sell your data or your personal information.

Unlike face book, twitter, and instragram that kick you off of their platform, and give your personal information to other companies, and give your data to the government ( like the police ) so they are able to track you down.

The best thing to do, to promote your channel is to put them on or as many "YOUTUBE" alternative platforms.

Freedom Of The Press

Freedom of the press or freedom of the media is the fundamental principle that communication and expression through various media, including printed and electronic media, especially published materials, should be considered a right to be exercised freely.

Such freedom implies the absence of interference from an overreaching state; its preservation may be sought through constitution or other legal protection and security.

Without respect to governmental information, any government may distinguish which materials are public or protected from disclosure to the public.

State materials are protected due to either one of two reasons: the classification of information as sensitive, classified or secret, or the relevance of the information to protecting the national interest.

Many governments are also subject to "sunshine laws" or freedom of information legislation that are used to define the ambit of national interest and enable citizens to request access to government-held information

freedom of the press

Legal Definition of freedom of the press

: the right to publish and disseminate information, thoughts, and opinions without restraint or censorship as guaranteed under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

NOTE:

The First Amendment's guarantees of freedom of speech and freedom of the press are closely intertwined, and many cases relating to freedom of the press are couched in terms of the freedom of speech.

Without respect to governmental information, any government may distinguish which materials are public or protected from disclosure to the public. State materials are protected due to either one of two reasons: the classification of information as sensitive, classified or secret, or the relevance of the information to protecting the national interest.

Many governments are also subject to "sunshine laws" or freedom of information legislation that are used to define the ambit of national interest and enable citizens to request access to government-held information.

The United Nations' 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference, and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers".

This philosophy is usually accompanied by legislation ensuring various degrees of the freedom of the scientific research (known as the scientific freedom), the publishing, and the press. The depth to which these laws are entrenched in a country's legal system can go as far down as its constitution. The concept of freedom of speech is often covered by the same laws as freedom of the press, thereby giving equal treatment to spoken and published expression.

Freedom of the press was formally established in Great Britain with the lapse of the Licensing Act in 1695. Sweden was the first country in the world to adopt freedom of the press into its constitution with the Freedom of the Press Act of 1766.

What is Freedom of the Press? - Definition, History & Examples

Freedom of the press, which is enshrined in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, gives the media, including television news shows and newspapers, the right to report stories and state opinions without government censorship or control.

Learn the definition of freedom of the press, explore its history, and review examples to understand how this right has evolved.

Definition

Imagine that you are a journalist writing a news story about a political figure who is suspected of corruption. You speak to many of his aides, former colleagues, and business associates, all who wish to remain anonymous.

The government finds out about your investigation, and since it is a sensitive topic with serious ramifications for top officials at the White House, they attempt to legally block you from publishing it. But you refuse to comply, invoking the freedom of the press.

Freedom of the press is the right to circulate opinions in print without censorship by the government. Americans enjoy freedom of the press under the First Amendment to the Constitution, which states: 'Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech or of the press.'

History

Back in 1735, there was a case involving John Peter Zenger, a journalist and publisher of the New York Weekly Journal. Zenger was sued for libel after publishing critical stories about public officials, but this famous case was overturned.

This case established the right of the press to criticize public officials, and it also indicated that true statements are a valid defense when sued for libel. Thereafter, in 1791, the First Amendment was established.

This Amendment is the basis of the freedom of the press.

During the early 1900s and World War I, two legislative acts were passed to regulate free speech.

These acts, the Espionage Act and the Sedition Act, were enacted in order to censor pro-German, socialist, or pacifist publications.

However, in 1931, the Supreme Court held that virtually all forms of restraint on free speech were unconstitutional.

In the advent of the Cold War in the mid-1900s, news organizations worked to disclose information such as public records relating to wars. These efforts were designed to promote the policy that failing to release information to the public constitutes a threat to the freedom of the press.

Thereafter, in the early 1970s, during Vietnam and the Nixon administration, frequent discussions occurred between news agencies and the government. In 1971, a Supreme Court case entitled New York Times v.

United States established the significant rights of the press. In this case, the government sought to suppress classified documents known as the Pentagon Papers.

These papers included classified information about the Vietnam War.

The New York Times fought against the government's effort to prevent publication, and the Supreme Court upheld the freedom of the press and its First Amendment rights to speech. Thus, the Pentagon Papers were released.

Over time, the freedom of the press has been tested repeatedly in the legal system.

Why Is Freedom Of The Press Important in a Democracy?

Freedom of the press states that expression and communication through published media – like in print and video – is a right.

Freedom of the press is codified in multiple documents that set international standards.

A government should not interfere with this freedom or censor media that’s critical of state power.

For years, freedom of the press has been an essential part of democracy.

In a democracy, people have the right to choose their government either directly or by electing representatives.

Why is freedom of the press so important for democracy to thrive? What are the threats to this freedom?

Truth, accountability, and informed voting: reasons why freedom of the press matters

A healthy democracy has guiding principles like citizen rule, fair and free elections, the protection of individual rights, and cooperation.

To ensure these principles become a reality, a free press is important. There are three main reasons why:

A free press fights for the truth

Freedom of the press matters because a free press uncovers the truth.

There are many issues – often very complicated ones – that journalists are trained to analyze and explain.

Without newspapers, radio shows, blogs, etc, the average person would have little to no knowledge of what’s going on around them.

Most people lack the time and resources to investigate issues and stories that affect them and their communities.

That’s where journalists come in.

Armed with skills like research and critical thinking, the best journalists know what questions to ask, what leads to pursue, and how to fact-check.

Fact-checking is a vital element of a free press. If the press is not able to fact-check safely and effectively, the truth remains buried.

A free press holds power accountable

Many entities can benefit from the truth staying hidden, including governments. One of the free press’ main missions is serving as a watchdog on power.

The press is the bridge between the people and powerful entities.

If the press is not free but instead beholden to power, it simply serves as an extension of that power.

Without freedom of the press, journalists who try to tell the truth when it threatens the state are not protected by the law.

This makes censorship and suppression inevitable.

Even if a state made it a goal to be more truthful and transparent, there’s always an agenda they would need to serve.

In the case of corruption and human rights violations, a free press is essential to exposing abuses of power.

A free press informs voters and strengthens democracy

Informed voting is the third reason why freedom of the press is so important.

Democracies only thrive when voters are as informed as possible.

Being informed ensures people understand the issues at hand and what policies and politicians best represent them.

The press is the body that informs by analyzing information, encouraging discussion, and fact-checking.

The freer the press, the better informed voters can be.

Without this freedom, voters would be at the mercy of politicians and special interest groups that want to win elections and promote specific legislation.

It would be very difficult and time-consuming for voters to do all their work on their own.

A strong media makes the process less complicated and offers valuable insight.

How freedom of the press is threatened

The press is threatened around the world. Some places are worse than others, but even in democracies, press freedom can face many challenges. Organizations like Reporters Without Borders track the number of journalists harassed, imprisoned, or killed.

This info gives the world a sense of how serious the problem is.

There are many threats to a free press, including:

Legal threats

Legal threats like libel and privacy lawsuits, source intimidation, and subpoenas for confidential information drain money and resources from news sources, delay or block stories, and make people afraid to talk to journalists.

Governmental threats

Government officials can make a journalist’s job much harder and even dangerous. Actions include threatening to take away licenses, using inflammatory language against the press, and tracking or even arresting journalists.

This abuse of power sows distrust in journalists, makes them a target for violence, and dampens the media’s ability to get out important stories.

Harassment and physical violence

Being a journalist can be a very dangerous job.

Harassment is very common, especially for female journalists. Stalking, threatening, doxing, and trolling all serve to intimidate journalists and discourage them from working.

Harassment can escalate to physical violence and include attacks, bomb threats, stolen equipment, and murder.

Protecting freedom of the press

What helps ensure that the press stays free and flourishing?

Legislation that protects journalists and freedom of the press is one of the most important steps.

"Shield laws," which are laws that provide journalists with an absolute or qualified privilege to refuse to reveal their sources, are found in many places.

A shield law protects both the journalist and their source.

In the United States, there is no federal shield law, so many activists are working toward this goal.

On an individual level, citizens can help protect freedom of the press by staying informed about threats to press freedom and efforts to support free media.

Supporting local newspapers is another way to stay informed and ensure that the issues most relevant to your daily life are being reported on.

For the sake of democracy, freedom of the press is a right that every entity in society must care about and commit to protecting.

The Brady List

In the legal system of the United States, a Brady disclosure consists of exculpatory or impeaching information and evidence that is material to the guilt or innocence or to the punishment of a defendant. The term comes from the 1963 U.S. Supreme Court case Brady V.S. Maryland, in which the Supreme Court ruled that suppression by the prosecution of evidence favorable to a defendant who has requested it violates due process.

Following Brady, the prosecutor must disclose evidence or information that would prove the innocence of the defendant or would enable the defense to more effectively impeach the credibility of government witnesses. Evidence that would serve to reduce the defendant's sentence must also be disclosed by the prosecution. In practice this doctrine has often proved difficult to enforce. Some states have established their own laws to try to strengthen enforcement against prosecutorial misconduct in this area.

Definition of the Brady rule

The Brady doctrine is a pretrial discovery. rule that was established by the United States Supreme Court in Brady v. Maryland (1963). The rule requires that the prosecution must turn over all exculpatory evidence to the defendant in a criminal case. Exculpatory evidence is evidence that might exonerate the defendant.
